Escapism: The Story Behind My Content + Down The Digital Rabbit Hole

I’ve wrestled with tackling this topic for quite some time, mainly because of the age we live in media wise, and the pressure to go with what’s popular or trending. Now more than ever, our lives are expected to move at warped speed, and there’s so much pressure to become nearly transparent. While I love catching up with the more candid social media and digital accounts of editorials and influencers I love, I also love to slow down and escape the mainstream for a moment through fashion editorials or music videos. After all, this is why I created my blog: fashion escapism and a place to be creative.

It’s also something I’ve wrestled with content-wise in blogging. As an artist, there comes a time when you ask yourself: should I appeal to the majority? However, creating my own editorial content both visually and through the written word is one of my greatest passions, and a voice I aim to stay true to. Additionally, I prefer to not give away so much of myself on social media: blame the introvert in me. If you’re a friend of mine IRL and know my Facebook account, you know exactly how real that is. I’ll always be somewhat private about my personal life. I savor moments in real time and those that are off the reel, per se. If I’m not posting on Instagram stories, it’s a safe bet that that’s exactly what’s happening.

Fashion Escapism

What does this mean in the blogging world? Think of your Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar magazines: whimsical and curated fantasies that inspire us to escape the real world for a moment. This is escapism. Think of your favorite novel growing up: do you remember the excitement of getting to that last page? I do. I almost find it somewhat poetic looking back now, as my earliest favorite book I can remember reading as a child was Alice In Wonderland. It’s been a theme of my own personal style and personality ever since: somewhere down the rabbit hole. Fast forward to my adult years: I escape at least once a year to re-read Atlas Shrugged. No fictional character has ever inspired me more. These days, I get sad when I see people tear others down for curated or edited photos: both sides are beautiful, and all of them are personal pieces of creativity, just through a different lens, sharing a different story.

When it comes to content, my goal was always to capture a feeling and bring it to paper (or the internet), and inspire others to do the same in their own way. It’s why my feed holds a distinct aesthetic: it’s a story through my eyes and heart. The same goes surrounding my beauty and fitness content: my goal is to tell that story, and my hacks, in the most authentic voice possible. It’s also why music plays such a huge role in my video content. I realize that this type of content might be slower paced, and I’m fine with that. It’s content I want you as readers to stop for a minute and to escape into again and again.

What things do you like to visually or literarily escape to?
