Hold the door, y’all! When it comes to a working a full-time job and a monetizing side hustle on the side, there is rarely any time for life. Ya know? Raise your hand if you feel like your life is being held together by a piece of fashion tape: I know mine is. It’s a good thing that we live in a digital and startup world that allows us to automate nearly every corner of our lives. You can get just about anything delivered via affordable subscription services, or find easier ways to find what you need. As your hacker spirit guide, I present you with the three shopping hacks you need to know about to start saving without the stress.
Shopping Hack #1: Rent The Runway Unlimited Subscription
This is my second nearly dedicated post on this life-changing monthly subscription. Why? It’s literally saved me thousands on seasonal clothing. The amount of clothing I used to throw out year after year from fast fashion and online boutiques was getting out of control: the bulk was giving me anxiety, and few things sold on consignment. I was hooked in less than two months living in New York with a bare bones closet and this subscription. I switch out my four pieces 2-3 times a week, making it a total of nearly 12 new pieces a week. At $159 a month for over 45 pieces (that are ALL designer), it’s a steal.
Shopping Hack #2: LIKE.to.KNOW.it
I know, I KNO: you’re probably like “ugh, another app I have to download, girl BYE” but hear me out. Why is this worth using, vs. just another app to clutter up your phone? Here’s the scoop. I spend a decent time scrolling for inspiration on social media, and what if you could get a full list of links to the items you’re perusing? Especially during the pre-holidays. Helpful, right? It’s like bookmarking internet tabs without the BS. You can even search via price points, and what you’re shopping for: clothes, home, kids, etc. Follow me in the app for direct links to items in my photos, and others too tab things for later, when you’re able to shop via your computer.
Shopping Hack #3: Money Management Apps
Time is money. However, managing your money is not a one-size-fits-all deal. Luckily there are apps that help close the gap. Losing track of monthly subscription charges is a major kick in the bank, for example. There’s major opportunity to easily clean up your monthly charges than sifting through your emails, or worse, logging into every account. Truebill does it for you. I’ve caught subscription price increases, and much more with the help of apps like this and NerdWallet.
