Let’s talk alternative style, y’all: a little bit of glam, a little bit of owning the beat of your own drum. However, let’s be honest: It can be a tricky thing to own in every style of dress. That doesn’t mean it’s outright impossible, it just takes a little mood board time. The following pieces are built to be effortlessly transitional with a side of bold. Just add your style.
Soft Blazers
I’m not talking about literal soft (although not against it) blazers, but rather the softness of the structure. Blazers with a tie front are a great way to keep an element of femme among a more tomboyish styling. I love layering them with breakaway pants, cutoffs and tees, and everything in between.
Bike Shorts
There’s nothing more freeing than wearing spandex, AM I RIGHT? These days, you can pair them with anything from blazers to tee dresses, and feel both comfortable and fashionable. It’s all about learning the length you need to master it right: mid-thigh for petite frames, and longer for taller ones. It’s also important to oppose texture: my go-to are Carbon 38’s Takara shorts paired with wool or patterned blazers. I’m obsessed with the bike short skirt combo work of art by Free People, seen below! Glam, with a side of sport.
Industrial Belt
Who else had skate belts in their younger years? I kept a few of mine around, and I love adding them over winter coats for an edgy take on your standard Gucci belt. Unexpected pairings are exciting at Michelin Star restaurants, so why not try the same formula in fashion?
