Inspiration For All: New York Fashion Week Recap

Fashion month came to close this past weekend: this past Fashion Week season was a super crazy one being my first one as a resident of New York, and working full time that week alongside shows and events! It’s been a work in progress juggling two careers with little off time (#startuplife), so I made the most of my time during the weekend days and weekday evenings. What was my consensus this year? As a visual artist myself, this Fashion Week was truly special to me for one reason: inspiration for all. Diversity on the runway went far beyond body types, it included so many sectors of influence molded into one.

Day One: Chromat

This was my 4th season in attendance at Chromat, and I swear, with each season it gets more inspiring. What once started as a swim label years ago, has expanded into revolutionary athleticwear with hints of streetwear. This year’s runway presentation rang true to its water roots with soaked models and white tees over bodywear. Each piece was thoughtfully crafted with every body type in mind, and I loved seeing so many different personalities and backgrounds in one show. You can check out more of the show and collection on their site here.

Day Two: Custo Barcelona

This is a wildly refreshing brand I’ve been obsessed with since my years in San Diego. I remember walking into their store in Fashion Valley being like, “where the FUQ have you been all my life?!” The Spaniard in me is all about flare and flash, and this season’s show was just that: sparkle and neon galore. It even included hints of athleticwear. Excuse me while I hunt down that tracksuit embellished in sequins. Shop their current pieces here.

Day Three: Nonie / Ruby Fang

I love Nonie for it’s relaxed glamorous feel. This season was full of blacks, neutrals, and pops of red; nearly every piece I would snag to wear here in New York for an easy transition from work to happy hour. You can see the full runway collection for SS19 here.

I am constantly drawn to Asian designs, as they bring such creativity to modern designs here in the US. Ruby Fang was full of artful deconstruction, from the dresses to the masks some of the models wore. I personally want one myself so I can walk around New York feeling like Lady Gaga. ALSO: hello, their team also creates custom birthday dresses? SIGN ME UP.
