Have you ever thought about wearing an oversized tee as a dress, but thought it was way too inappropriate? You know, the whole: “WHERE TF ARE YOUR PANTS” judgment from the public? I feel you. Being a taller gal myself, I always thought that trend was only for my gorgeous petite friends. After moving to New York, I’ve felt more and more comfortable with experimenting with creative layering. One of my latest finds was layering tees with longer dresses, and I can’t wait to continue this trend as the season changes! Tees as dresses are for anyone of any height, and this post breaks down the tips you need to master it.
Tees: Don’t be afraid to GO BIG
I love that oversized everything is in style right now, especially tees. Ladies, grab your boyfriend’s gym tee, pick one up from a thrift shop, and GO. TO. TOWN. If you’re tall like me, an XL works perfectly. You can shape it through accessories like belts, or even buy it reworked. My go-to for reworked vintage is URBNVTG, whom I found last year before fashion week, in search of a Nike tee dress. I’ve been hooked ever since. Order larger than you’d think for a killer, longer fit.
Layer with another dress
Adding in different textures brings a whole new feel to a tee. It’s also a great way to not feel so exposed if you’re tall. I shopped my own closet for this look and broke out one of my favorite layering pieces, the mesh dress from ASOS that I wore last year to Gypsy Sport’s runway show. It’s versatile enough to wear over a tank and shorts, a regular band tee and jeans, or UNDER an oversized athletic tee. Play around with some of your looser fitting midi dresses or slip dresses in your closet for a fun and creative underlayer to bring the hemline down a bit.
Bike Shorts
I love that I can actually add in spandex shorts to an outfit nowadays. No matter your comfort level, there’s a length for everyone. I actually have a pair on under this outfit as well for sanity’s sake. My go-to’s for versatile bike shorts include these from Carbon38, Year Of Ours, and Michi. You even get a discount off these with MGRAGG50!
