I’m loving that band tees and other 90’s stylings are still the rage these days. One particular style I’ve yet to bring back is the spaghetti strap dress. It was never a really flattering style on me (top heavy probs), however when reimagined in today’s eclectic stylings, I decided to try again. Besides, when Badgley Mischka makes a dress this fabulous, you WORK.IT.IN. If you’re looking for a 90’s fashion trend to get behind, look no further than the band tee/spaghetti strap dress combo!
The 90’s style loose guidelines
While I believe in being a renegade, with fashion, it’s sometimes more about bending the rules. You always want to think about color pairings, and what piece you want to be forefront in the outfit. Get calculated crazy! Opt for a light tee with a darker dress, and vice versa. You want both to compliment each other. If you opt for similar shades, make sure there’s enough patterns/graphics to compliment each other, as seen by me below. For colors schemes, opt for contrasting color pairings: red/blue, green/yellow, black/white (you get the point).
Minimal accessories
I truly believe 90’s style looks best with just a few choice accessories, like a killer pair of sunnies, or a statement bracelet/earrings. Necklaces are a little overkill when you’re going for a more creative look.
Shoes
Today’s fashion allows for just about every footwear option, and I must agree that this pairing looks just as amazing with a pair of Jordans, Converse, or chunky sandals/strappy heels. Make sure you use complimentary colors: metallics, black, white. Anything else is just overkill.
Body Type Talk
This styling works for any body type, just consider the cut of the dress! If you’re more broad shouldered like me, opt for an A-line. If you have a straight figure, go for a slimmer fit on top and full skirt or wrap. If you’re bottom heavy, opt for a darker dress that fits and flares.
