The final editorial is here, and I’ve saved one of my favorites for last: active trends as evening wear. You’re probably thinking, WTF? …but just trust me. It can be absolutely magical.
New York Fashion Week this year was full of technical fabrics mixed with traditional evening fashion trends. I’m not talking about rocking your fave sneaks with a gown (which I DO, and that’s totally okay too), I am talking about playing with the feel of the fabrics you choose to pair together. There was a lot of neoprene, mesh, and metallic spandex details at Gypsy Sport, Rack Addik, Alexander Wang, and Black Rat, and I was so excited to see these trends stay in the limelight.
One of my favorite designers, Alexander Wang, does this flawlessly. I wear A LOT of Wang when it comes to fancy events, because it’s comfortable, transitional, and adds a pop of my personal style of active fashion. This crew neck scuba sweatshirt was a piece I was lucky enough to snag from the H&M Alexander Wang capsule that launched last year, and I wear it EVERYWHERE. The zipper detailing in the back gives it that sporty chic feel, and the straps in the front add some dimension to it’s all black coloring. I wore it in New York for Fashion Week to several shows and a blogger event. It pairs SO well with statement skirts, as it’s clean, form fitting, and gives a fancy feel for a night out. This amazing skirt from Forever21 (omg I know right??) is so fun to pair with just about anything, but it really pops against super fitted or regimented pieces like this sweatshirt.
If you want to dress down the look, I like to pair a clean set of sneakers with it (especially if you add in a pair of palazzo pants or harem pants like my favorite Philip Lim ones), and you’re good to go. For a more dressy look like I put together for Fashion Week, I traded the sneaks for my Stuart Weitzman Gigi Booties. I love the bootie look, but this look also slays with a pair of super strappy stilettos!
Thank you SO much again for all the love you’ve shared with me on this editorial journey, I am super excited to continue my editorial projects in the future as active fashion continues to mature. Is there a look you’re struggling with when it comes to active fashion? Something you’re not too sold on yet? Share it with me! I’d love to take on a challenge and answer your inquiries and get you excited about the looks you’re trying to achieve.
xoxo- M
